Self-Esteem Therapy in Los Gatos, California
You work hard. You show up for people. You hold a lot together. And still, underneath all of it, there's a voice that says it's not enough. That you're not enough.
It might sound like I'm too much or I'm not enough or something is fundamentally wrong with me. It might be so familiar you've stopped noticing it's even there. That's core shame. It's not a feeling that comes and goes. It's a story you carry about who you are.
You've probably tried to push through it. Maybe you've told yourself to just be more confident, to stop caring what people think, to be grateful for what you have. And yet the feeling keeps coming back.
That's not a willpower problem. It's a pattern, one that usually started long before you had any say in it. And it can change.
Here's Some Reasons You Could Benefit from Self-Esteem Therapy in Los Gatos
You apologize constantly, even when you haven't done anything wrong
Compliments are hard to receive. You deflect them or you don't believe them
You say yes when you mean no, and feel guilty when you try to set a limit
The voice in your head is harsh and relentless. You'd never speak to someone else the way you talk to yourself
Mistakes feel like proof that something is wrong with you, not just something you did
You feel like your needs are too much, so you minimize them or don't ask at all
You measure your worth by how much you accomplish or how much you do for others
You function well on the outside, but inside you feel like you're always one step away from being found out
This is what low self-worth and core shame look like for a lot of people. Not someone who can't get out of bed, but someone who keeps going while quietly believing they're never quite enough.
In self esteem therapy, what if you could go from:
Being kind to everyone except yourself
→ To extending yourself the same compassion you give everyone else
Believing your worth depends on being useful
→ To knowing you're worthy even when you're not producing or performing
A relentless inner critic running the show
→ To a voice that's honest with you, not cruel to you
Shrinking yourself so others feel comfortable
→ To taking up space without apologizing for it
You already know what you'd tell a friend in your position. The hard part is believing it about yourself.
Self-Esteem Therapy in Los Gatos, California Can Help
You don't have to just think more positively. You can actually understand where this came from.
Core shame and negative self-talk rarely appear out of nowhere. They usually trace back to early experiences, what you learned, directly or indirectly, about your worth. Whether love felt conditional. Whether your feelings were welcomed or quietly managed. Whether you had to earn approval rather than simply receive it.
That learning doesn't disappear when you know better. It lives in the body, in your relationships, in the way you move through the world. That's what therapy is for. Not just tools, but real insight into why this keeps happening and what it's actually about.
A quieter inner critic. Not silence, but real relief from the constant negative self-talk
Less people pleasing. Learning to disappoint people and survive it
The ability to receive. Care, help, and compliments without deflecting or dismissing
More ease in relationships. Less performing, less bracing, more genuine connection
Benefits of Self-Esteem Therapy
Clarity on your needs and the belief that they're worth voicing
A different relationship with shame. Not something to hide from, but something to understand and move through
A more grounded sense of self that doesn't depend on what you produce or who approves
What working together actually looks like
Step 1. We identify where your inner critic came from, whose voice it's actually echoing, and what it was trying to protect you from by keeping you small or striving.
Step 2. We separate who you actually are from who you learned to be in order to be loved, accepted, or safe.
Step 3. We practice a new relationship with yourself in real time, in session, so self-compassion becomes something you know how to do, not just something you know you should feel.
What This Isn’t
This isn't about forcing positive thinking or repeating affirmations that don't feel true yet. It's about understanding where the inner critic came from, and slowly building a relationship with yourself that isn't run by it.
My approach to self-esteem therapy
I draw from IFS-informed, attachment-informed, and somatic-informed approaches. Instead of trying to override the parts of you that feel small or not enough, we get curious about them. Where did they come from? What have they been trying to protect you from?
Core shame lives deep, but it's not the truth of who you are. It's a conclusion you drew about yourself at a time when you didn't have the full picture. Most of the harshest things you believe about yourself were learned in relationships, and they can shift in relationships too. That's what we're building in therapy. Not a performance of confidence, but an actual felt sense that you are enough as you are.
I work exclusively with private pay clients, which means no insurance involvement, no diagnosis required, and no limits on your care.
What sessions actually look like:
Getting specific about when the inner critic is loudest, not just talking about self-esteem in general terms
Parts-focused work, understanding the different sides of you, including the one that's convinced you're not enough
Tracing where these patterns took root, often long before you had language for them
Building real, lived evidence of your own worth, not just intellectual agreement with the idea
FAQs
Isn't low self-esteem just something I need to think my way out of?
1
Not usually. Self-esteem is often shaped early and reinforced by real relationships, it needs to be worked through relationally, not just cognitively.
How is this different from just telling myself positive affirmations?
2
Affirmations you don't believe usually backfire. This work gets at why you don't believe good things about yourself yet, so new beliefs can actually stick.
Will I have to talk about my childhood?
3
Only as much as it's useful. Family-of-origin patterns often explain a lot about self-worth, but we go there at your pace.
What are your fees, and do you accept insurance?
4
Sessions are $230 for 50 minutes. I'm a private-pay provider, so there's no diagnosis required and no insurance limits on your care. I provide a superbill for potential reimbursement.
