Couples & Relational Trauma Therapy
in Los Gatos, California
For couples ready to understand what keeps repeating between you, and individuals healing from trauma that shaped how you connect.
You've gotten really good at surviving. Now let's talk about actually living.
Most of my clients didn't grow up in homes where the harm was obvious. But something got wired in early, and it's still running the show, in your relationships, in your body, in the patterns you keep repeating.
Maybe you:
You and your partner keep having the same fight, just with different words
You love each other, but somewhere along the way you started feeling more like roommates
Your relationships keep playing out the same dynamic, different person
Something happened that still shapes how safe you feel today, even years later
Your body reacts to certain situations in ways that don't match the size of what's actually happening
You find yourself parenting the way you swore you never would
You've probably tried to figure it out on your own for a while. Maybe you've read the books, done the journaling, talked to friends. But insight alone doesn't always move the needle. Something deeper is still asking for attention.
That's what therapy is for.
I'm Megan, an LMFT based in Los Gatos, CA. I specialize in couples work, anxiety, relational trauma, and the lasting impact of early family dynamics, working with individuals and couples across California via telehealth.
If you're here, something in you is ready. Maybe you can't fully name it yet. Maybe you've been circling this decision for a while, telling yourself you'll reach out when things get bad enough, or when you have more time, or when you're sure. But you keep coming back to the feeling that the way you've been living isn't quite working anymore.
That's enough. You don't need a crisis to deserve this.
The people I work with are curious about themselves. They want to understand why they show up the way they do, where their patterns came from, and what it would feel like to stop carrying so much. They're not looking for someone to hand them tools. They're ready to do the real work, the kind that actually changes something.
That's what I'm here for.

The relationship is the work.
Research shows the strongest predictor of successful therapy isn't the modality. It's the connection between you and your therapist.
When you feel safe and genuinely understood, deeper work becomes possible. Change actually lasts.
That's why I offer a free 15-minute consultation, so you can get a feel for my style before committing to anything.

Individual sessions are $225, couples $250, and family $275 per 50-minute session. Insurance is not accepted at Megan Bathen-Gonzalez Psychotherapy. All services are fully private pay. There are a small number of spots open for sliding scale fees, as well as the option to submit a super-bill to your insurance.
Wondering how much your insurance might cover? Use the tool to check your out-of-network benefits in seconds. Many PPO clients receive 40 to 80% back on sessions.

A superbill is a detailed receipt of services that you can submit to your insurance company for possible reimbursement. It includes information such as the type of service provided, diagnosis codes, and session fees. Reimbursement is not guaranteed and depends on your specific out-of-network benefits. Check them here.

That's more common than you'd think, and it usually comes down to fit, timing, or approach. If something feels different about what you've read here, it's worth a conversation. The consultation call is a good way to get a feel for whether this would be different. Learn more about me and my style here.

A standard session is 50 minutes long.

That's completely okay. It's normal to need a little more time before taking that step.
If you'd prefer, you're welcome to reach out by email first. You can share a bit about what's been going on or ask any questions you have, and I'll respond personally.

Yes. Everything you share in therapy is kept private and confidential. The only exceptions are situations required by law, such as risk of harm to yourself or others, or abuse of a child, elder, or dependent adult.
-
While I have experience and love working with kids, I do not currently accept minor clients. I find the work with kids is most productive in person, and I do not have the space to offer in-person services currently.

I work to understand both of your experiences and the pattern happening between you. Most conflict isn't about one "bad" partner; it's about a cycle that pulls you both into reactivity. That said, I will hold both of you accountable. If something is harmful, avoidant, or escalating conflict, we'll address it directly and respectfully.

Your first session is mostly about getting to know each other. We'll talk through what brought you to therapy, your history, and what you're hoping will be different. There's no pressure to have it all figured out. I ask questions, listen closely, and start forming a picture of how we might work together. It is called an ‘intake’ as I am gathering more info than a normal session. Sessions are 50 minutes and held virtually, so you can do this from wherever feels comfortable.
